Indian Head Massage

What is an Indian Head Massage?

Indian Head Massage is a traditional therapeutic treatment that has been practiced for centuries in India as part of Ayurvedic medicine. Ayurveda is India’s oldest healing system which aims to promote health and wellness, and to prevent and treat illness by maintaining balance in the body, mind and spirit. The word “Ayurveda” comes from Sanskrit and means “The science of life and longevity”.

This deeply relaxing therapy focuses on the head, neck, shoulders, and upper back, areas where tension and stress often accumulate.

Using a combination of gentle pressure, circular movements, and rhythmic strokes, I work on specific pressure points and energy pathways to release blockages, improve circulation, and promote overall wellbeing.

The treatment is designed to restore balance to both the body and mind.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING AN INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE?

Indian Head Massage is typically performed while you are seated on a chair to create an energy flow. Therefore, it is a convenient and accessible treatment that can be enjoyed at home, in the office, or in a professional setting. Whether you’re seeking relief from stress, headaches, or simply want to unwind, Indian Head Massage offers a wonderful way to rejuvenate both body and mind.

The massage can be done with clothes on and no oil or by removing clothes from the shoulders and upper back to allow work with oils which is recommended for added benefits and for a more luxurious and multisensory experience.

After a consultation, to adapt the treatment to your specific needs and unique concerns, I will generally massage the shoulders, upper back, arms, hands, neck, head, scalp and face with a variety of massage techniques and stimulate specific pressure points on the neck, head and face to relieve tension, reduce headaches, and leave you feeling more relaxed and centered.

The session will end with a moment of stillness, allowing you to slowly transition back to your day with a renewed sense of wellbeing.

I use a selection of oils such as organic olive oil, grapeseed oil, sesame oil, mustard seed oil, almond oil and coconut oil to address your specific needs.

HOW DO I BEST PREPARE FOR AN INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE?

  1. Arrive a little early to your appointment to allow yourself time to unwind. This helps you transition into a calm state before the treatment begins. If you’re feeling rushed or stressed, it can be harder to fully relax during the session.
  2. To allow a better relaxation and ease of movement, it is recommended to wear comfortable, loose clothing. It’s a good idea to wear a shirt that allows easy access to your neck, shoulders, and scalp.
  3. For the best experience, try to avoid eating a heavy meal or consuming caffeine right before your treatment as too much food or stimulants can leave you feeling restless or uncomfortable during the massage.
  4. Hydration is key for maximizing the benefits of the massage. Drink plenty of water before your session to help prepare your muscles for relaxation and to support the detoxification process afterward.
  5. To maximize the benefits of the treatment, it is recommended that your hair and scalp are clean, free of styling products such as hairspray, mousse or gel that could interfere with the massage.
  6.  Let go of any thoughts or distractions and focus on enjoying the moment. Trust the process, and allow the soothing techniques to work their magic. The more relaxed you are, the more you’ll benefit from the treatment.

By following these simple steps, you’ll be fully prepared to enjoy a deeply relaxing and rejuvenating Indian Head Massage experience.
